Be curious, not judgemental. Good words to live by, not always easy.

I loved this. I have my great great grandfather's diaries which also exist online via University of Montana Library. He was born in 1853 and came to Montana as a 9-year old as an assistant to a photographer looking for adventure in the Wild West. His diaries cover his senior years helping my great grandparents raise their children and run a ranch outside Avon, Montana. At first the reading seemed dull and uneventful. But if you read enough it's anything but. They had no weather forecasts, no government hand assistance, no crop insurance, no health insurance. They resumed a fight for survival with every sunrise. There's so much to learn from those who came before us. I often wish I could have, would have, asked them more while they were here. Reading your account of being raised by older generations is what that is.

I was a little girl when my Grandpa put me in his early 50's Chevy and allowed me to go to Terp's (that's the name I remember--Clinch Haven Farm) for milk. He spoke of him with great admiration.
